[Recap] CECE Colloquium Series – Activism and Social Movements

Dana Fisher and Rosalind Donald

On Monday, March 31st CECE’s Dana Fisher was joined by SOC’s Rosalind Donald for the final CECE colloquium of the semester. Fisher and Donald focused the discussion on their work related to activism and social movements. Fisher presented on her newest research, which focuses on protests. She is particularly interested in what factors are driving people to protests and the public’s changing opinion on political violence. Donald presented her research on displacement and the environment in Miami. She outlined how Miami has seen two visions of environmentalism: 1) the magic city, which focuses on preserving economic growth and 2) environmental justice, which centers vulnerable groups in addressing environmental concerns.
