As all eyes turn towards Dubai for the 28th Conference of the Parties to discuss climate change on a global scale, we are taking this opportunity to look inward to the work happening across American University’s campus related to climate policymaking and COP28.
- CECE Director Dana Fisher is looking at the role of civil society groups and climate activists play around climate negotiations, as well as continuing to follow the U.S. position and how it connects with its domestic policies.
- Center for Latin American and Latino Studies (CLALS) Research Assocaite Professor Rob Albro is working on the question of loss and damage, which promises to be a major conversation at COP28. In particular, he is researching the relative neglect of non-economic loss and damage in ongoing multilateral efforts to account for and pay for loss and damage because of climate change and displacement.
- The Institute for Carbon Removal Law and Policy (ICRLP) is working on carbon removal and will host a post-COP webinar looking at the handling of carbon removal at the meeting.
CECE will also be co-hosting a live event with We Don’t Have Time on campus next Thursday, December 7th. Click here for more details.
