Julie A. Anderson

Associate Program Director, Masters of Science in Sustainability Management (MSSM)

Julie Anderson is a Professorial Lecturer at the Kogod School of Business at American University and is the Associate Program Director for AU’s Masters of Science in Sustainability Management.

Most recently, Julie was a Director at Blackrock where she served as Head of U.S. iShares Sustainable ETFs for Institutions. In this role, she led the overall business strategy for a $55 billion suite of index ETFs across product, marketing, thought leadership and distribution for asset owners and asset managers.

As a practitioner with a 25+ year career, Julie has extensive investment management experience as a trader, economist, analyst, portfolio manager, and global business strategist from her time at T. Rowe Price (1997-2011), PIMCO (2012-2016), and Invesco (2016-2019).

From 2019-2021, Julie took a sabbatical to expand her academic credentials, earning a Doctorate in Business Administration and as a Fulbright scholar (Belgium) – both in Sustainable Finance. Her research focuses on how asset managers utilize ESG data to evaluate the sustainability of investments and create sustainable funds, as well as the differences in ESG qualities between emerging and developed markets.

In addition to her doctorate from Georgia State University, Dr. Anderson graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Arizona and received a master’s degree in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University.
