AU Welcomes Nicole Darnall, The Arlene R. and Robert P. Kogod Eminent Scholar Chair in Sustainability
Nicole Darnall is a distinguished scholar in sustainability who was recently appointed as the Arlene R. and Robert P. Kogod Eminent Scholar Chair in Sustainability at American University. Previously, she served as a Foundation Professor and Associate Dean at Arizona State University’s School of Sustainability. Darnall was also the director of ASU’s Sustainable Purchasing Research Initiative, contributing significantly to global knowledge on sustainable procurement. Her appointment at AU is an historic joint appointment of an endowed chair within the Kogod School of Business and School of Public Affairs and reflects the university’s deep commitment to sustainability. Darnall’s research, widely published in top peer-reviewed journals, focuses on incentivizing sustainable practices in organizations and individuals. At AU, she will continue this work, particularly in sustainability governance, particularly as it relates to organization structures, technologies, incentives, and capacities that lead to significant sustainability transformations. Darnall’s arrival at AU represents a key moment in the university’s journey towards advancing sustainability education and practices.
