CECE Postdoc Talks NOAA Budgets Cuts With Spanish Speaking Media

Dr. Julie A. Gonzalez, Environmental Justice Postdoctoral Fellow at CECE, was interviewed by reporter Johani Carolina Ponce about the potential impacts of proposed budget cuts to NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration). The discussion focused on how these reductions could affect public safety, climate research, and disproportionately impact vulnerable communities that rely on NOAA’s services. Additionally, privatizing NOAA’s services would further restrict access to critical climate and weather data, worsening environmental injustices by putting life-saving information behind paywalls. The interview was facilitated through a partnership with Climate Power En Acción, an organization dedicated to advancing climate communication and advocacy in Spanish-language media. The article was published by several independent Spanish-language news outlets, expanding access to this critical issue among Spanish-speaking communities.
